Amendment 2 would suspend or “notwithstand” seven sections of the state Constitution to allow the legislature to fund education in nonpublic schools. The amendment would end the Constitution’s requirement that public money be spent only to fund the state’s “common” or public schools. It also suspends, for school funding purposes, the Constitution’s’ prohibition on singling out cities or counties for “special” laws that apply only to them.

This Measure Would

• A "yes" vote would enable the Kentucky General Assembly to enact laws funding private schools, charter schools, private school vouchers and tax credits.
• A "no" vote would continue the state Constitution's requirement that public money for education be spent only on public schools.
