Kentucky Democratic U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey launched his 2024 reelection campaign Thursday.?
McGarvey, who represents the state’s 3rd Congressional District, said in a social media post “he’s not done yet” serving Louisville in Washington, D.C. He was first elected during the 2022 midterm elections to succeed former U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth. He is the only Democrat among the eight Kentuckians serving in the U.S. House and Senate.
“I came to Congress with the same approach from my ten years in the state senate: fight for my community and get things done,” McGarvey said. “I’m proud to be the first freshman Democrat to pass a bill out of the House. I’ve fought for gun violence prevention, LGBTQ and women’s rights, and more.”
McGarvey’s state senate seat was filled by former Louisville Metro Councilwoman Cassie Chambers Armstrong after a special election. McGarvey began serving in the state legislature in 2013.?
In his announcement, McGarvey said his endorsements include reelected Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear, state Senate Minority Leader Gerald Neal, state Senate Minority Whip David Yates, and state Sen. Karen Berg.?
The general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.?
